Things are moving along quickly for the Manchester-based group. In November they shared their debut single “I’ve Never Met Anyone I Thought I Could Really Love (Until I Met You),” a few months later, they became the winners of Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent Competition and, as a reward, earned a performance slot at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
Their songs stand out for their simplicity and realism. Westside Cowboy sings about grounded details—bus routes, skulls in museums, bad jobs, and imagined cowboys — painting a hazy, heartfelt mythology from everyday observations.
“I’ve Never Met Anyone”, “I Thought I Could Really Love (Until I Met You)” and “Shells,” released in April, are the type of indie-rock songs that burrow deep, their riffs and off-the-cuff lyrics seeping into the recesses of your mind. The choruses to their songs are immediate and effecting; they could well become the U.K.’s next breakout indie band.
